OEB-EnSys is a toolbox for the non-linear optimization of thermal power plants which is developed during a correspondent research project funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (reference number 03ET4053A).

The name of the toolbox is an abbreviation of the German words “Optimierung von Entwurf und Betrieb”. It refers to the designated application of the toolbox in the optimization of energy system designs under consideration of their operation.

OEB-EnSys is inspired by the Open Energy Modelling Framework but represents a standalone package.

It can be used to find cost-effective plant designs by considering discrete structural and operational decisions and by determining values for continuous process variables that depend on non-linear correlations.

The development of the package is still in an early phase. A first public release is planned for 2019.
