Add a Standardized Symbology Set to the standard (see attached symbology that we use in Iowa)

Our current working idea is that map-based apps could determine the appropriate symbol based on event_type, severity, road/state, and etc. If it's something you think would be useful, I'd be interested in hearing more about the use case for a standardized symbology. In particular, would you have a strong preference between (1) symbol names included as an explicit field in an Open511 event, or (2) publishing a (non-normative) algorithm that clients can use to derive a suggested symbol based on other fields in the event?

I'd say that your second option would be best, in allowing for consistency of symbology. However for more advanced states (like Iowa) that are already pre-defined, it would be nice to have a field that would over-ride the algorithm. I sent the open 511 general email an email a few weeks ago with attachments of a spreadsheet that we use in determining symbology.

What email did you send to/from? I don't recall reading that -- the email might not have made it through. You can reach us in private at open511@opennorth.ca, or join the mailing list at https://groups.google.com/forum/?fromgroups#!forum/open511
