The Open Color Picker does not appear in 10.13 High Sierra.

I've tried to investigate a bit (now that I have a machine that runs High Sierra) and found the following:

  • High Sierra doesn't seem to load color pickers that are installed into ~/Library/ColorPickers - This is true for the current Color Picker demo code from Apple as well - I found nothing in the developer docs if this is an intentional change or a bug.
  • If copied to /Library/ColorPickers, the picker is added to the picker panel, but the layout is completely off and the picker UI completely disappears on a picker resize.

This is very unfortunate and we should warn our users.

I'll create a bug on the picker project as well for internal discussion.

As a workaround: Would it be possible to export a palette as CLR file?

When will this be fixed? My emails to Support are going unanswered.

hey @l-i-n-k @cpshanley @lufego, please head over to http://opencolor.tools and download the latest version (1.0.6). we have fixed the issue with High Sierra (or found a workaround). Please check it out and let us know what you think.

Still having a lot of weird issues in macOS High Sierra 10.13.6 (17G65).
So I decided to uninstall Open Color Companion.app 1.0.7. Lazy as I am I used AppCleaner.app to do the job but interestingly I still have the color picker tab in my system color picker — not in Sketch but inside native macOS apps 🧐

What keeps happening:

  • The color picker in Sketch still feels very fragile and hard to control
  • e.g. when selecting a border or shadow color then opening Open Color Tools via cmd+shift+c and selecting a color the background color changes instead of the border or shadow
  • or the selected color isn't applied at all

Therefore

  • Uninstalled it successfully for now but would love to get it up and running again.

👋@lukasondrej Any idea how to fully uninstall or what might be going on there and how to fix it?

Hmm… okay, seems like I could resolve it by also dumping PickerHelper.sketchplugin.
