I am trying to apply stroke width transform on some jpeg files to highlight the text area. The implementation is pretty straight forward. However, I am having a problem determining which direction to use.

Some images have light text on dark background, some have dark on light and some have both.

What is the best way to detect which direction to choose based on the loaded image.

In the original MSR paper I think they just applied directions one after the other.

@jonhare This works if I only need to highlight the text areas of an image. What I am looking for however is a way to create an image that only has the text from the input image. Not sure how or if such a thing is possible.
