Merging a new and an existing way deletes the existing way. #1424

Because I couldn't find a way to extend an existing way, I added a new one starting at the end of the existing way, then selected both and combined them into one. After examining the resulting changeset, it seems to me that iD deleted the existing way, thereby deleting it's history, and copied the tags onto the new one. The expected behaviour is exactly the opposite, the new way should become part of the existing way.

You should be able to click 'Add line' and click on and endpoint of an existing way to extend it.

Ah, thanks, makes sense! (I selected the endpoint and looked for an 'extend' popup....)

But I hope you do agree that merging a new and an existing way should keep the existing way.
