Wishlist! User selects node, C-C C-V duplicates it. Same tags, new osm id.

@tmcw so this copy and past feature would work for building footprints too and their meta data?

Really cool for adding sport tagged sites (soccer, tennis, etc) and buildings with same pattern

  1. Copy+Paste properties between paths just like when pressing "R" in Potlatch would be tremendously helpful. It's one of my most frequently used features there.
  2. Duplicate selected paths including properties would also be very helpful to quickly create rows of identical houses. I've hacked around this in Potlatch by creating a parallel path (press "P") without moving the mouse, then select the new path and move it as a unit.

I'd just like to add that as fantastic as iD is, I'm truly missing my most timesaving feature from Potlatch: Hitting the "R"-key to repeat a tag on a new highway or building.
It's the one feature that literally saves me 30-50 seconds of typing and clicking each time I'm using it. Is there anything like this in iD at all? (Similar to Ctrl+C --> Ctrl+V)

A feature like this this would be very unobtrusive since it's just a keyboard shortcut but at the same time it may help keeping iD snappy to use as the users mature and start editing larger portions of the map.

The most important feature that Potlatch hasn't is copy and paste, it would be nice and time-saving to have this option in iD. Paste tags as you can do with Ctrl+T in JOSM is also very useful.

Potlach has a couple of keyboard shortcuts:
R Repeat tags
Shift + R Repeat relations

But no one has the way of copy and paste lines or polygons.....

I believe this issue and #1724 are different things.

I came here from Google noticing that, to my frustration, there's no Repeat Tags function on iD that Potlatch and JOSM (and even Vespucci) have. You have a point or line, and you want another point or line to have the same tags (so you can change only one value instead of typing them manually again). You just press R on Potlatch and that's it. So copying the tags of a given object, not duplicating an object.

Another thing is to explicitly duplicate the point or line, which is what I think that #1724 is all about. Which would also be nice, but IMHO not as useful / important as copying objects values.

This ticket is (well, at least the original post and first couple comments are) about duplicating whole features, ie geometries+tags. #839 is about duplicating tags only.

@ajashton you're right. Thanks for pointing out!

Copy and Paste of geometries is now merged, and I'm closing this issue.
Copy and Paste of tags (and Repeat Tags), still planned, is being tracked on #839
