With the new OSM slippymap interface, when I click on a position, and ask for a long link to get decilmal coordonates, the page is shifted to the right, and coords shifted to the right of the position I clicked.

I used to get this coords to geotag pictures (without GPS or to add precision when GPS is wrong) in Wikipedia Commons. or to give link to a place to friend.

Seems like this happens because the center of the map is determined after the share sidebar is opened.

That's true, if the side bar is opened before choosing the center, there is no problem. This is not an usual behavior. So, in this case, the view should probablye be shifted to keep the same center when sidebar open, but that could slow down the sidebar opening on low end computers, with vector layers.

@Popolon, what do you mean by "click on a position"? Are you talking about the links in search results?

I only mean, clicking on a position on the map to center it, now with the new interface, there is to click serveral times to have it centered. and when it's centered, if I ask for a link, it is shifted, because :

  • the right bar open, and then the center of the displayed window is no more at the clicked poisition.

But if I use the link given, and open the window, there is no position shift If I ask again for long link.

There is clearly an inconsistancy in behavior here.

I've added a "Center map on marker" option to the proposal for redesigned sharing controls.

Please test it out on http://mapui.apis.dev.openstreetmap.org/ and see if it meets your needs.

That's perfect and in new option, some I want for long time :).
Thank you very much for you work, the side bar take full meaning with this, The SVG output, is a really good addition too !

I hope, it will serve on some os like android with the ability to share, with external share options too, soon or late, but I suppose that's was already on your roadmap if that's not already the case (still not tested).

I also noticed today another bug, I will open a separate bug for this as I think it's not related at all (tested with your link and the answer is far worst, but, I understand this is a test for other thing), but now, when I search for a specific point, it doesn't exactly match it's real position, could be 50 to 100m, at least after zooming on it (with + interface icon)

See Issue #383 for the other bug.

I don't really understand exactly what you were asking for here, but @jfirebaugh's work will be live shortly if you'd like to try it and see if it fixes this.

tomhughes, thank you for your reply, on other bug, this answered my questions, the problem was not from osm itself but from geonames. and for this one jfirebaugh, already fixed the bug on it's beta tool. So everything is fine.

I'll close this as fixed by the merge of #351 then.

This was resolved in the beta that jfirebaugh give me, but not in the actual production modification :(.

It could be some help to have the option to see a marker on the desired center point for this feature ?
