API prevents me from downloading small areas with JOSM #4107
When I have edited large areas with Potlatch in the morning, I can't download even small areas with JOSM in the evening, because error code 509 appears: You have downloaded too much data.
Even if punishing me for editing large areas with Potlatch would be morally justified, it doesn't make sense to prevent me automatically from editing small areas with JOSM. Instead, it would make sense to reduce the maximum size of an area that can be edited with Potlatch.
JOSM requires to download many small ways by Strg+Ctrl+W instead of whole large areas like in Potlatch. I would be happy if the automatic blocker would act consistently and transparently.
The text was updated successfully, but these errors were encountered:
The blocker is completely and utterly consistent.
It does not know, or care, what application you are using.
The only thing it considers is how many bytes you have downloaded via the map call and the period of time in which you have downloaded them. As you download your "score" increase and then it decays away as time passes. If it exceeds the set threshold you are blocked until enough time passes for it to decay.
We are not, and will not be, treating JOSM, or Potlatch or any other client, specially.
I would also say that the blocker is not an attempt to punish anybody, it is a way to share limited resources fairly among everybody.
