Maybe as a result of this a list of supported or "known to work" 4g devices can be added to the wiki.

yes, we should add something in the docs at some point, let me collect what I've tested here, so we don't forget:

Huawei ME909u-521 (device cuaUx.0)
Huawei E220 (device cuaUx.0)
Sierra Wireless MC7304 (device cuaUx.2) [as of OPNsense 16.7, needs FreeBSD 10.3]

To test AT commands on the console, before configuring the device, use:

Huawei

cu -s 115200 -l cuaU0.0

Sierra Wireless

cu -s 921600 -l cuaU0.2
