Federate scheduled streams to show up as events on Mobilizon servers.

Note: I know nothing about how Mobilizon  federation works, and it's possible that this may not be feasible depending on what limitations there are and how/if Mobilizon  can accept federated events from non-Mobilizon  servers.

I've spent some time with Mobilizon lately and unfortunately I don't think it's going to be useful for Owncast to federate with. Mobilizon servers are meant to interact only with Mobilzon servers and you can't simply follow another actor on the fediverse like I expected you to be able to do.

I was hoping a Mobilizon user would be able to follow an Owncast instance and have the scheduled streams show up in the Mobilizon interface, but that seems to be impossible from what I can tell.

This is disappointing because I was really hoping to be able to share events over the Fediverse, but there seems to be no consuming services that would be able to handle them.

Somebody else verified that this is not something Mobilizon would be able to do. https://mk.szkod.ovh/notes/9d4svqf9wg

Szkodnix Social 2.0
@gabek@social.gabekangas.com Hmmm not really... Mobilizon is more for other Fedi users to follow your account. To federate between Mobilizon instances, server admin needs to allow for those.

I am not saying that it is a perfect solution 😕 Still idea of connecting each other would be amazing. You should definitely talk to devs who are making it!

RE: @szkodnix@mk.szkod.ovh Do you know more about Mobilizon? Can you follow people on the Fediverse? It doesn't look like it's something Mobilizon does, therefore I don't know how you'd follow an Owncast instance.

Side note: I was just informed that Pleroma supports Event objects. There is some hope that at least one piece of software can handle this functionality. https://kazv.moe/notice/AUQYSj458EtEmnWm4u

@gabek At the very least it's an Event object, which Pleroma supports, so it should be able to display it just like other status types (Note, Question, etc.).

@gabek gabek removed this from the v0.3.0 Schedules milestone Jun 13, 2024

This issue has been automatically closed due to inactivity. This isn't done to be a jerk, or because the project doesn't care. But simply to keep the focus on things that are actively discussed, and has continued interest from the community and Owncast developers. Feel free to to comment if there is still discussion to be had, or if you plan to work on it. Feel free to drop by our chat if you'd like to discuss in real-time with people. Thank you for being involved!
