Hello,

just installed RC3.
Added two tagged mp3s and nothing is displayed in media. Even a rescan collection doesn't succeed.
On the same machine I run 4.5.7 and same mp3s are working.

owncloud.log (debug) is quiet and webserver log as well.

System: Qnap NAS Linux
Webserver: Apache
DB: MySQL

check error.log of apache once more and found following after pressing "rescan collection":

ls: invalid option -- o
BusyBox v1.01 (2012.12.04-18:29+0000) multi-call binary

Usage: ls [-1AacCdeFilnpLRrSsTtuvwxXhk] [filenames...]

List directory contents

Options:
-1 list files in a single column
-A do not list implied . and ..
-a do not hide entries starting with .
-C list entries by columns
-c with -l: show ctime
-d list directory entries instead of contents
-e list both full date and full time
-F append indicator (one of */=@|) to entries
-i list the i-node for each file
-l use a long listing format
-n list numeric UIDs and GIDs instead of names
-p append indicator (one of /=@|) to entries
-L list entries pointed to by symbolic links
-R list subdirectories recursively
-r sort the listing in reverse order
-S sort the listing by file size
-s list the size of each file, in blocks
-T NUM assume Tabstop every NUM columns
-t with -l: show modification time
-u with -l: show access time
-v sort the listing by version
-w NUM assume the terminal is NUM columns wide
-x list entries by lines instead of by columns
-X sort the listing by extension
-h print sizes in human readable format (e.g., 1K 243M 2G )

Hmmh ... how is OC determing music files internally?

Just tried media app from 5.0 RC2 like someone recommended in forum.
Same result.
Looks like Busybox doesn't support new OC version.

EDIT: This is on OC 5.0 release, not RC3. Let me know if I should refile as a separate issue.
EDIT 2: This is a clean install of OC on Debian 6.0.7. This hardware has never run OC5 before. This affects multiple browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Safari, IE9) on multiple devices (two laptops, a Mac Mini, a phone), is OS agnostic, and persists after clearing the browser cache.
EDIT 3: Linux nas 2.6.32-5-686 1 SMP Sun Sep 23 09:49:36 UTC 2012 i686 GNU/Linux

Seeing these errors in owncloud.log for each file when scanning any number of music files:

Same here on OC 5 release.

This might be related to e4e95bf. @j-ed was able to get rid of some Undefined index messages in #691.

Has anyone an idea how to fix this? I can't get any mp3 files scanned and i'm having pretty much exact the same output in data/owncloud.log

well i'm testing too. i'm getting an pause button instead the scanning collection button, and i'm getting an

{"app":"PHP","message":"syntax error, unexpected $end, expecting T_FUNCTION at \/var\/srv\/owncloud.zankapfel.org\/apps\/media\/lib\/scanner.php#87","level":4,"time":1363464139}

i guess thats because you open this function, but never close it again: if (!empty($data)) {

i'm not sure where to put the } because i'm not a good programmer, but nomatter where i put it, the issue above (Undefined index) still exists.

@ronnicek open Files app and upload mp3, not in any directory but directly in the root
this issue seems to be duplicate of #586
the only difference is warnings in the log, but that is already fixed

Exactly the same issue on my installation of owncloud 5.
I have tested this on two different systems a QNAP and a Raspberry PI (Raspian).
After the modification of scanner.php, error log is empty but music also.

i have to admit, my testing yesterday was incomplete. now i created a new folder and uploaded files right into it and rescanning the collection finds those mp3s in the subfolder too. only already uploaded files are not being found.

i thought about the patches i already installed on my install and remembered the patch in Issue #2291: owncloud/core#2291 (comment)

maybe this is related to those files being found now too?

@ronnicek I got all straight from git, core, apps, 3rdparty. And maybe most importantly, I uploaded the music in the new version. Whereas the problems exist in a version which I upgraded. I just tried the git version of the media app in my real server, and it still has the same problems...
By the way, does you media app also not scroll on the right most panel, but only in the track list?

i uploaded the

https://github.com/owncloud/apps/blob/799ed45784242d1503a6c9e2a777f5185842bedc/media/lib/scanner.php

to my raspberry, still no (also no newly added) mp3 files (did not try any other file extensions) are listed in the Music tab. I can still see them in the root overview tho.
could there be a problem with that, that my files are not stored in the same folder as the owncloud is operational? although the user rights should be correct, as i can edit/upload/delete files.

still not working 100% it shows just some mp3 files.
can be reproduced with the sample music files in windows (these are displayed in media):
Maid with the Flaxen Hair.mp3
Kalimba.mp3
Sleep Away.mp3

and following are not displayed:
http://www.linnrecords.com/linn-downloads-testfiles.aspx
the mp3 testfile (this and others of my private mp3 storage).

Are there some specifics for mp3 files?

@wligtenberg In Chromium mp3 playback might require the installation of missing codecs.

Setting $option_max_2gb_check = false in /3rdparty/getid3/getid3.php (line 101) fixed the issue for me as well.
By the way after I changed it back to
$option_max_2gb_check = null
rescan of the library still works in the way that it does not remove the previously found tracks. But uploading new files wont be added to the track list.

Workaround is good for me too, although I'm concerned about the "oc://" not working and if changing that by hand to the directory path might break things in the future during an update?

This workaround for scan by greg0r : #734 (comment)

And this for playback https://github.com/owncloud/apps/blob/64ce426e073fff7118a5b0f5490f6887ef08ef2f/media/ajax/api.php

Thanks !! Works fine !

EDIT :

@VicDeo @LukasReschke Hi, the playback fix doesn't work on Safari 6.0.3 on OS X 10.8.3 (works on my Firefox and Chrome but not on Safari)

No playback (should be fixed with 64ce426 )

I see a slight problem in this commit (e5999fe) :

The code does not make sense to me:

$file = \OC\Files\Filesystem::getView()->getAbsolutePath($path); // it is relative to www root!
$data = @$this->getID3->analyze('oc://' . $file);                // analyze() function cannot work with 'oc://' prefix

I corrected it to:

$file = \OC\Files\Filesystem::getLocalFile($path);  // get local file name from $path
$data = @$this->getID3->analyze($file);             // analyze that file

I double checked - it works for me, even for user-mounted remote file systems.

Be sure that your mp3 files contain id3tags, otherwise they will NOT be recognized. Also check the $option_max_2gb_check is set to false

Since I posted about this bug above, wanted to say that I too want to test this badly but unintentionally destroyed my own owncloud installation here about an hour before @vobornik posted the patch. This was unrelated to owncloud itself (I nuked the entire VM by mistake). But I too will test this upon restoring next week, and promise to post results here ASAP.

OC5 users, Please start reading here #734 (comment) one of these solutions might be right for you

If these solutions won't work for you I appreciate to see OS/PHP version and the state of the following option http://www.php.net/manual/en/filesystem.configuration.php#ini.allow-url-fopen in your php.ini
and your results of testing the following pull request #848

I get email notifications on this issue so please don't post another 'me too' or 'thanks'.

the following changes are merged to master and stable5:

  • prefer id3v2
  • show 'unknown' artist and filename as title if tags have not been found
  • fallback to local FS when it's not possible to use streamwrapper

Please try media app from daily build or wait for 5.0.1

I added 29 GB of music yesterday using oc 5.0.10 and it won´t sync. I´ve tried to deactivate the media app, logged out and logged in again - then activated it and logged in and out again. I´ve also tried to let the browser be online for 12 hours after pressing the "resync" button.

I use Ubuntu Server 12.04 LTS and I uploaded the files through WebDAV to root directory.

I have encryption enabled btw.

@vobornik Your solution worked, thanks.

@VicDeo What surprises me is that this fix/patch isn´t merged into the newer versions of OC.

The only thing that doesn't work that I wish for is that the media app would recognize the artist also sort the folders in order into albums. Maybe that´s a future enhancement?

Note that this problematic code is still shipped in OC 5.0.12.
Just did a 5.0.9 automated upgrade to 5.0.12 and had to change the code manually again.
