There is no Debian package to install owncloud destktop client on the armhf architecture.. There are debian packages for i386 and amd64 available at http://software.opensuse.org/download/package?project=isv:ownCloud:devel&package=owncloud-client but not the armhf.

I'm trying to install owncloud desktop client on a Samsung 3 Chromebook with an arm processor running Debian GNU/Linux

It'd be great if you could also build suitable debs for this architecture.

I have built the desktop client from source ( versions 1.2.1pre ) on the arm chromebook

:~$ uname -msvo
Linux #1 SMP Sat Nov 24 23:10:02 PST 2012 armv7l GNU/Linux

:~$ cat /etc/debian_version
7.0

following the instructions http://doc.owncloud.org/desktop/1.1/building.html and it works.

Since we build using the OpenSUSE build service, you would need to ask them to add the Debian ARM port next to the x86/x86_64 releases. OBS maintainers have added the openSUSE arm port for 12.2 already. If that has happened, please notify us and we will add it.

There is an openSUSE 12.3 port for ARM available, feel free to add it :)

So how would I now go about installing the client? I'm running ChrUbuntu (Ubuntu 12.04 LTS) on the ARM Chromebook. Is a package for that in the build service, can you add it, and if not can I compile it myself?

I asked on the opensuse-buildservice mailing list about support for this: http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-buildservice/2013-06/msg00130.html cc @Air4Ee

Any instructions/way to compile it myself in the meantime?

Hi Jan,

owncloud is a no arch ('all' in the Debian speak) package, so following the
instructions on
http://software.opensuse.org/download/package?project=isv:ownCloud:devel&package=owncloud-clientshould
be the way to go.

Note that there are various versions available in the OBS, please choose
the one you prefer.

Greetings,
Dirk

Hey @dirkmueller, that’s what I tried before. It seems fine:

$ sudo apt-get update
Hit http://download.opensuse.org  Release.gpg
Hit http://download.opensuse.org  Release
Hit http://download.opensuse.org  Packages
Ign http://download.opensuse.org  Translation-en
Reading package lists... Done

But then when I try:

$ sudo apt-get install owncloud-client
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
E: Unable to locate package owncloud-client

Do I miss anything? And what do you mean by »choose the one you prefer«? I have Ubuntu 12.04, there’s only one choice for it. ARM seems only available for openSUSE 12.2 – which prompts me to download a .ymp file I have no idea what to do with.

If I get this running I can continue to work on design improvements for the client, so any help is appreciated. ;)
