Hmm. This is most likely a problem with you Linux or webserver configuration or packages.
Please make sure that you have a working PHP setup.
Not an ownCloud issue.

@binarykitchen php5-fpm daemon is not running or configured to listen port instead of socket.
Not related to ownCloud.

@binarykitchen

Are you saying the daemon should listen to a socket instead of a port?

Well, I copied the nginx code from owncloud's documentation so I think it is somewhat also related to owncloud.

Any advice is very appreciated!

@binarykitchen
nginx passes php scripts execution to php5-fpm.
Documentation is generic and it is assumed that php5-fpm daemon uses a socket to accept connections.

# grep listen /etc/php5/fpm/php-fpm.conf
; Multiple pools of child processes may be started with different listening
; - 'listen' (unixsocket)
; 'ip.add.re.ss:port' - to listen on a TCP socket to a specific address on
; 'port' - to listen on a TCP socket to all addresses on a
; '/path/to/unix/socket' - to listen on a unix socket.
listen = 127.0.0.1:9000

Mine listens to port 9000 on localhost, not socket.

@binarykitchen

Well, on my side it's set to

listen = /var/run/php5-fpm.sock

Because sockets are faster. Will this work with owncloud?
