DIGM-Gmail-mail-Downloader

A terminal controlled , Gmail-mail downloader..

The application is designed to be controlled by terminal or cmd (for Linux or Windows)..
This application takes the Gmail username and password and then downloads all the mails of a particular Gmail folder as desired by the user or download all the unread ones only, which is similar to checking mail.
It now makes it simple to keep only some specific mails on the system..

Requisites

  • Internet Connection
  • IMAP enabled on Gmail
  • Applications should be allowed to access mail from Gmail on authentication
  • 64-bit LINUX version or 64-bit Windows system

Installation

For Linux

  1. Download the folder Ubuntu from here and then run the digm file in dist/digm/ folder from terminal, i.e, ./digm
  2. It is recommended to download all the files in a separate folder so that other files don't get affected by the program.

For Windows

  1. Download the folder Windows from here and then run the win_digm.exe file in dist/ folder.
  2. It is recommended to download all the files in a separate folder so that other files don't get affected by the program.

Functions

For now, a user can do the following things :
  • Download all the mails of a single Gmail folder into a clean arrangement in the local system with a log file with all the details
  • Download all the unread mails of a specific foder and mark them read on Gmail
  • Send a mail
  • Attachments are also downloaded for any mail that is getting downloaded

Technology Used

  • The program is made in Python-2.7.9
  • Executables for Linux were made using PyInstaller
  • Executables for Windows were made using py2exe

Testing

The program has been tested on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty (64-bit)..

For Windows

The program has been tested on Windows-8.1 (64-bit)..
