This is a proof of concept developed for simple automated deployement tools that can help environment managers distribute and deploy environments consistently

There are three different tools developed here

=========================================================
1/ Grails/5_AutomatedDeployment => Written in Groovy using the Grails framework

I intended to create a website that can be used for managing environments. You add environments via the web and select the command to be run.

The issue I ran into this was with AJAX piping back the ssh execution. I did a workaround by piping the java ssh into a log by using ant to invoke sshexec. And then using AJAX to refresh the front end of the screen with the log file piped back.

Slow in IE, ok with Firefox and fast in Chrome. Only reason being - no matter how many times I called the refresh, Chrome ignored it if the text hadn't changed.

=========================================================
2/ Java/4_AutomatedDeployment => Written in Groovy, simple Ant ssh exec to invoke tasks. Let's say I want to run uptime

./run.sh server_local Utilities.uptime

./run.sh <Name of the server defined in Environments.groovy> <Name of the module>.<Function Name>

This was designed after Fabric and I seemed to have reached a point where everything works.

There seems to be a minor bug with the SSHExec task, some of the ssh output does not displayed on the screen, if a log file is supplied all the info is there

=========================================================
3/ Python/3_AutomatedDeployment => This is just Fabric and I implemented some random functionality for an application, just to see if it would work.

Yes, it did.

Abandoned this, as I would have to deploy this on Solaris and getting python 2.6/.7 setup and all the modules for Fabric would have meant getting all the supporting libs compiling and supporting them.
