as for speed, the site needs to mention Chaplin benchmark: 50-100% increase in view rendering speed for collection views.

and our custom benchmark(s)

Nicely done with speed. I think no jQuery is going to be our main selling point, and we should set a better minimum browser spec for Chaplin to target. Would be really cool if Chaplin could go entirely jquery-less.

Chaplinjs.org, backbonejs.org, thoraxjs.org. I like the startupy sound of exoskel.at, as long as it conveys that it's a js framework.

Chrome is awesome. Rendering of simple collection view, based on collection with X items. Without jQuery:

1500 items: 297ms
500 items: 80ms
200 items: 34ms
100 items: 15ms
50 items: 8ms

With jQuery:

1500 items: 1651ms
500 items: 218ms
200 items: 61ms
100 items: 29ms
50 items: 17ms

Firefox (without):

1500 items: 179ms
500 items: 50ms
200 items: 20ms
100 items: 10ms
50 items: 9ms

Firefox (with):

1500 items: 919ms
500 items: 166ms
200 items: 63ms
100 items: 28ms
50 items: 18ms

Safari (without):

1500 items: 112ms
500 items: 38ms
200 items: 14ms
100 items: 10ms
50 items: 7ms

Safari (with):

1500 items: 285ms
500 items: 53ms
200 items: 20ms
100 items: 13ms
50 items: 9ms

  1. underscore.js latest + jquery.js 2.x + backbone 1.1 + chaplin 0.11.x = 50KB gzipped, 161KB minified
  2. exoskeleton.js + chaplin 0.12.0-pre = 19KB gzipped, 71KB minified
  • Summary: exoskeleton reduces vendor JS size by 2.62 times
  • Exoskeleton is 5.5 times faster in Chrome, 5.1x in Firefox and 2.5x in Safari on rendering big views.
