Perhaps this is not the right place for this, but I'm wondering why http://peerjs.com doesn't support SSL.

GlobalSign now offers free wildcard certificates to open source projects, so it seems like this wouldn't be too tough to manage.

Thanks for listening :)

There's also StartSSL http://www.startssl.com/?app=1 which offers free SSL certificates and has been around for years. You don't have to be an "open source project" to apply. Their root CA is in all of the current browsers http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/StartCom
The GlobalSign offer may be a better fit for the peerjs project but for those other devs that want to setup their own server this may be an easier option.

I got an SSL cert to use on my peerjs peer server, and it works great. I used a startssl.com free cert. I know that people are wanting it on the peerjs.com peer server though. It's super easy to set up your own peer server though.

@michelle Any updates on this? It looks like you already got a certificate from GlobalSign some time ago, but like others mentioned, it's also possible to get a free one from StartSSL or you could even use CloudFlare, as they do support websockets.

SSL for peerjs.com, would really solve alot of issues.

If you have not heard of Let's Encrypt, it is really great. It lets you encrypt websites extremly easy, using automated tools, besides that it is completely free. I have used it multiple times, and it just works!
