[Bug]: windows: some diffs fail with "No valid diff content found"

Description

Someone experienced the failure "No valid diff content found" when trying to analyze some diff files generated on Windows. I don't get the same issue but should be platform specific. Either: encoding issue, BOM, line endings etc (most of this is already covered so I'm not sure what is up)

All diffs should be parsed!

This issue recurs with other encodings eg utf-16
We need to be more versatile
