See: http://www.harald-hoyer.de/personal/blog/fedora-17-boot-optimization-from-15-to-3-seconds The file etc/grub.d/05_custom_noinitrd is a configuration file for grub2 that creates entries without initrd for faster boot. The good thing is that the normal boot entries are still there, so if the initrd less entries do not work, you can still boot your system. This will keep it working even after Kernel updates. (Grub bug? - https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=737370) - It is necessary to create a link from your root partition to /dev/root. This is done with the file /etc/rc.d/rc.local. Remember to replace /dev/sda5 with your correct root partition. After copying the files, run /etc/rc.d/rc.local and then: $ sudo grub2-mkconfig -o /boot/grub2/grub.cfg
