Non-constsant behaviour in conjunction with ActivityPub

I have a pair of edge cases where I cannot quite get the same behaviour in both sites when interacting with ActivityPub.

On a single blog site (openmentions.com), I have enabled "Separate Webmention Types from Comments" and I get WebMentions and ActivityPub replies as comments but ActivityPub likes and shares as facepile - this is the desired behaviour

On a multiblog site (isbrill.com), I have the same settings but webmentions appear as the facepile (not the desired behaviour). If I deactivate this setting, I get mentions as comments but lose the likes and shares facepile.

I cannot for the life of me figure out what I have done differently between the two sites. Is there some filter I have missed?

There is now an option in the settings to disable the facepile UI of the Webmention plugin, to only use the ActivityPub one instead.
