This is a similar error as #21, #15 and others, but I have tried to reset my computer, and I am running from within a vanilla terminal.

But I do seem to be running newer versions of things than others: osx 10.8, xcode 4.6. This is for iOS 6.1, but it doesn't matter what version SDK I give ios-sim. I have not tried downgrading for anything yet.

[DEBUG] Session could not be started: Error Domain=DTiPhoneSimulatorErrorDomain Code=2 "Simulator session timed out." UserInfo=0x100508820 {NSLocalizedDescription=Simulator session timed out.}

I have the same issue. Works on local Mac but when running the script on the build server I get the same Error message

I had seen the same problem. You need to VNC to you build server as the build user and start up a desktop session (a.k.a. log in).

That's what the issue is, your build machine just doesn't have a desktop session currently running for the build user, so, when it tries to star the simulator, it can't, and waits for the window to start responding (which it won't unless there is a desktop session started).

Once you VNC to the build machine and start the desktop session, you're good (you don't have to keep your VNC connection alive, but you do have to keep the user's desktop session active).

Forgive me, I'm a newbie to IOS and Mac. I'm getting this same error except it's when i run it locally. I don't currently have a build server (don't even know how to set one up). How can i start a desktop session locally (if that's even possible).

Xcode had a bug that is fixed in 4.6.3:
"Hang when debugging in iOS Simulator on OS X 10.8.4. 13722320"

Closing. If this is still a problem with 1.9, re-open. Also see the Troubleshooting section in the README.
