I had previously had "Pioneer SP" on my previous Asus laptop computer. It started as Windows 7, then went to 10. But that machine eventually died. I had a lot of fun with your game (but unfortunately, I don't remember the particulars of the game data as loaded, or which version of the load).

I have a fairly new custom build rig, very high end, operating with Windows 10. It has plenty of memory, both for the operating system, as well as game files. It can do High, and Very High resolution graphics.

I download the game file, then extract and run.
I keep getting a notice on startup of "out of memory" as few as 2 to as many as 12 times before game starts. In addition game has crashed upon "seeing" another ship.

I didn't find any remotely similar issues reported on your "faq" board.

Any help you can give will be very much appreciated, as it's an extremely fun game.

Issue team edit: for your own sake, please don't include personally identifying information. If we need to contact you directly, Github has an email-forwarding system that doesn't require you publishing your personal email.

I download the game file, then extract and run.

From https://pioneerspacesim.net or github relese? The former is +1 year old, the latter 3 weeks, please confirm it's the new version you're using.

I can only say it sounds like Windows is behaving very strange.

Obviously we can not support Scout Plus, as that's another game, and a quite old fork from us, with lots of code we no longer share.

But for the above isses, I'd guess that's something with your graphics card? Is there some way to see if the graphics card is being used by Pioneer? @fluffyfreak would probably know better.

Pioneer Scout Plus was done by @walterar and is a separate project from ours, but I haven't heard from him in several years.
https://sourceforge.net/projects/pioneersp/
https://github.com/walterar/pioneer-sp

@JamesRPasky can you find the file in the folder "Documents/Pioneer/" called opengl.txt and paste the the first 3 lines of that in here please?

What graphics card do you have? Are you playing on a laptop?
Because it appears to be using an Intel(R) UHD Graphics 630 GPU which is built into the CPU rather than a separate graphics card from AMD/nVidia.

My first suggestion with graphics issues is always to make sure that you have the latest drivers installed for any (/all) graphics cards in your machine.

Terrible idea to put your full name / email / phone number publicly online for everyone to see, btw. I hope you love spam.

@JamesRPasky Github is a publicly-accessible platform, and completely unaffiliated with the Pioneer Space Sim team other than that we use its services to organize our efforts. Thank you for your willingness to work with us, but Github provides all the information we need to get in contact with you!

@JamesRPasky upgrade drivers for BOTH your graphics card, and make sure pioneer is running on the correct one. Can't help you much more than that.

@JamesRPasky you haven't posted the spec of your machine, adn you need to update the drivers for your graphics card(/s). Then try again and let us know if that worked.

If you have a discrete graphics card (aka: GPU) from AMD / nVidia then Pioneer should run using that automatically. It should also work on your built in Intel CPU+GPU but only if the driver is up to date.

So that's what we've asked you to do to fix the problem: Update the drivers.

If that doesn't work please come back and post the information about your PC and we can then help you diagnose what is wrong.

To do that you can run dxdiag like this https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4028644/windows-open-and-run-dxdiagexe and put the information somewhere for us to see.

Ok James I don't know what "Driver Updater" is since the built in Windows Update doesn't update the drivers for your graphics card and you're not giving me much information.

Wherever you sent an email too with your "DxDiag" output I have not got it so instead please do this:

  • run DxDiag again and save it out
  • drag the saved DxDiag file into your reply to this message
  • it will get attached like the following file "example.txt has
  • example.txt

You can also use this method to attach the files opengl.txt and output.txt from the folder Pioneer in your Documents directory.

I cannot help without this information.

Alright nice setup you have.

The driver for your nVidia 2070 appears to be from the middle of 2019, whereas the latest driver was released 6 days ago.
So I'd install that and try again.

The trouble with "Driver Updater" programs is that they often don't work with drivers that need to be installed individually or that cannot be left unattended during installation.

There were two other files that I asked you to attach:

You can also use this method to attach the files opengl.txt and output.txt from the folder Pioneer in your Documents directory.

Because it looks like it's still trying to use your built-in "Intel UHD 630", which is not the GPU it should be using

Ok thanks James, that is still using your built-in GPU... I have no idea why so I can only ask you to follow a guide like the following...
https://www.addictivetips.com/windows-tips/force-app-to-use-dedicated-gpu-windows/

....to force it to use your main GPU
