(I've mentioned this via email before, but figured the issue should get documented here.)

This error message occurs because installing with TeX Live no longer gives you an additional copy of the bib file here:

texmf/bibtex/bib/biblatex/biblatex-examples.bib

The TDS on SF looks fine, though. Any idea what could be going wrong in the upload to CTAN?

Update: I updated to 2.2 via tlmgr. I get two copies of biblatex-examples.bib here:

  1. texmf/doc/latex/biblatex/examples
  2. texmf/doc/latex/biblatex/bibtex/bib

but 2 should be texmf/bibtex/bib/biblatex. The TDS in the upload looks OK.

Do we need two copies of this in the tree? I removed one to save confusion after modifying one and not the other ...

It is convenient for test documents outside the examples folder. Could the build script generate the second copy for us?

It looks like it's here instead:

bibtex/bib/biblatex-examples.bib

but you'd prefer it at:

bibtex/bib/biblatex/biblatex-examples.bib

yes?

Yes. bibtex/bib/biblatex-examples.bib is the folder structure I can see on CTAN, but when I install/update with tlmgr nothing gets copied into bibtex/bib. AFAIK bibtex/bib/biblatex/biblatex-examples.bib is the setup used in previous versions - we should probably stick to that.

Ok, I've changed the build script - in fact I was already copying the one file into two locations, it's just that one of the locations was incorrect, as you say. The 2.2 dev beta on SF should be correct in the flat and TDS versions.

Great. Going forward should I just push commits to the bib file in doc/latex/biblatex/examples?

Yes, exactly - that's where I copy it from to the build trees for packing.

@aboruvka What exactly is wrong?

@josephwright problem is that one copy of the examples.bib file ends up in the wrong place in the tree after install. I package this in the right place but I don't know what the intricacies of how the TL people unpack my package and place it in the TDS tree. I build two packages, one TDS, which they don't want, and one "flat" (it isn't flat, it's just different, I don't know why PL called it "flat") which is what the TL people need. I don't know how this tree is pulled apart and inserted into a TL package - it seems to put one of the examples.bib files in the wrong place ...

There does not look to be anything wrong with this at our end. TeX Live uses a set of custom scripts to install everything, and it's possible they need to be adjusted. However, there's not much we can do about that.

Was fixed by the TL maintainers.
