From a conversation with Zoran @ LinkedIn:

Hi Yan,

It can be done via the config like so for example (same settings as what was suggested in that blog post): = "SELECT 1" = false = 1800000 = 1800000 = 3 = true = false

environments {
development {
dataSource {
url = "jdbc:mysql://localhost/glu"
properties {
validationQuery="SELECT 1"

to fix the exception:

2012/04/25 10:08:30.344 ERROR [JDBCExceptionReporter] The last packet successfully received from the server was 73,329,213 milliseconds ago. The last packet sent successfully to the server was 73,329,214 milliseconds ago. is longer than the server configured value of 'wait_timeout'. You should consider either expiring and/or testing connection validity before use in your application, increasing the server configured values for client timeouts, or using the Connector/J connection property 'autoReconnect=true' to avoid this problem.
