If the Zsh and Bash scripts can use relative path, it wouldn't require powerline to be installed via pip, making it possible to just clone the repository and telling Zsh/Bash about it. Using relative path would also not prevent the case of installing via pip.

(I don't want to install powerline via pip so this is important to me, pull request coming.)

You could have just added an explicit POWERLINE_COMMAND setting before or after sourcing powerline.sh.

I have no objections against #528 and thus have merged it, but it is not required to solve the issue.
