I really need a keyboard shortcut to open hamster's window.
I read somewhere that Super+H* would work, but I already have something else mapped to it, and even if I disable it, it doesn't seem to work.

The Super+H shortcut is indeed the default shortcut for the Gnome Shell extension (and the Cinnamon applet). The shortcut key combination can be changed in the extension settings.
Are you using Gnome Shell extension, or just plain hamster?
If you are not using the extension you could bind a window manager shortcut key to open an arbitrary hamster window by binding it to a hamster-cli command. E.g. use gnome keyboard settings applet to assign keys to the following:
