The sample write path is currently:
AppendSamples() -> buf. channel 1 -> memory -> buf. channel 2 -> disk
If samples have only made it to bufchannel 1, they are not queryable yet. For rules which depend on each other, it will be useful to be able to query the result of the previous rule immediately in a second rule. Thus, we should make writes to memory synchronous.
