element.fireEvent(event.eventType, event);

return event;

I'm a novice and am working on a family website. Everything is great except for the above script error being received in IE7 and IE8. I have absolutely no idea how to fix this as I've never worked with javascript, etc. I've tried using Google to research, but so far nothing recommended has worked. It could be me, though, as I have no skill with this, so all I can do is basically copy and paste the code where needed. Most of the explanations go right over my head! Hoping someone can help me out with this. Below is the code surrounding the line that the debugger says is causing the error:

function fireEvent_IE(element, eventName, memo, bubble) {

var event = document.createEventObject();
event.eventType = bubble ? 'ondataavailable' : 'onlosecapture';

event.eventName = eventName;
event.memo = memo;

element.fireEvent(event.eventType, event);
return event;

var fireEvent = document.createEvent ? fireEvent_DOM : fireEvent_IE;

Event.Handler = Class.create({

initialize: function(element, eventName, selector, callback) {
  this.element   = $(element);
  this.eventName = eventName;
  this.selector  = selector;
  this.callback  = callback;
  this.handler   = this.handleEvent.bind(this);

If you need more info, I'll be happy to supply it. Thank you very much for your help!
