Using the keyboard to navigate the patch windows would make the work easier. Commands that are similar to the typical word processing programmes can be used, such as:

  • arrow up+down (if no object is selected) - scroll patch window up/down in single pixel, or 10 pixels
    • same for arrow left-right
  • page up+down - window jumps-scrolls up/down
    • maybe pageup+down with shift or ctrl to jump patch left/right?

you mean as in "same for arrow left-right"?
I guess all directions are good, why not develop in the already know behavior:

  • one keyboard arrow jumps 10 pixels (it's not very useful to move the display 1 pixel)
  • arrow + shift jumps 50 or 100 pixels
  • ... or any other values that will be tried by experience
  • why not also add these movements to a canvas receive object, either using [canvasname] or [pdcontrol]

afaict this could ( and probably: should) be resolved purely on the gui-side - without the pd-core ever knowing.
i haven't checked but i guess the pd-core isn't notified about use of the scrollbars either...
