PEP 8 Explicitly State Variable Names convention?

I have read and re-read pep 8. I am new to python. I may be missing it, but I cannot find a clear statement on variable names like is present for Function Names, and Method Names and Instance Variables. From those, I have inferred something like this may be correct?

Variable Names? Local Variable Names? (whatever the precise terminology should be)

Local Variable names should be lowercase, with words separated by
underscores as necessary to improve readability.

Function Names

Function names should be lowercase, with words separated by
underscores as necessary to improve readability.

Method Names and Instance Variables

Use the function naming rules: lowercase with words separated by

Yes, in general variable names follow the convention for function names. It's true this isn't explicitly described, but I think most Python programmers sort of internalize this. Function names are in a way just like variable names, but defined using special syntax and bound to different types of objects.

If you're interested in writing a short clarifying branch to make this explicit, I'd be happy to review it. My suggestion would be to rename "Function names" to "Function and variable names" and say something like "Variable names follow the same convention as function names."
