qBittorrent version 4.1.9
Stop all downloading when there are no empty space (a couple of percents are left) because the operating system can't restart after that because there are no space for temporary files in the /tmp or %TEMP% directories.

To my knowledge it already happens. The torrent's status moves from "Downloading" to "Stalled"

Yes, it does. But the available disk space has already been run down to zero by the time that happens.

First warning that disk space has run out is when the OS and other programs become erratic and unstable and torrent client pops up IO errors. When torrents are started, there is no warning that there is not enough disk space for the torrent content to be written to disk, even though client knows in advance how much is about to be downloaded.

Perhaps better to have an option the user can set that specifies "stop downloading when [n] MB of free disk space remains", perhaps preset to a modest value.

Yes, because if you have a good speed connection and a lot of seeds, it won't stop immediately and fill the whole free space, like the train with a braking distance.
