How does one do this? taskkill /im qbittorrent.exe only hides it. I have it configured to minimize to tray, which it does on X as well ... seems it sends WM_CLOSE which seems trapped by qBT.

Try "taskkill /f /im qbittorrent.exe"

I had the same issue and adding the /f worked for me. :)

The keyword "gracefully" is key :) ... /f defeats the purpose

I have it configured to minimize to tray

Seems you also have it configured to close to tray. Try to disable this option.
