qBittorrent version and Operating System

v4.1.4 / Windows 10 Home (version 1809/build 17763.134), 64-bit

If on Linux, libtorrent and Qt version

Qt

What is the problem

qBittorrent crashes when attempting to run it. Shows up in the tray briefly but disappears a few seconds later. Also, no log file is created by qBt.

What is the expected behavior

The program starting up and the UI appearing as normal.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Launch the program.

Extra info(if any)

Tried rebooting and making sure all qbittorrent processes were closed before trying again.
Also, the CPU i'm running on in case it helps any is an i7 6700K.
For now, I've downgraded back to 4.1.3, where the problem does not occur.

I just upgraded to 4.1.4 and it is crashing for me as well. Additionally, it will temporarily block WAN network traffic (only on the device qbittorrent is running on) until it closes out after crashing. Connecting to LAN resources will still work. I'm running Windows 10 Pro 1803. My network card is an Intel 82579LM.

Yep, always crashes on startup for me. Reverting to 4.1.3 and it works.
I have lots of torrents over multiple disks (about 380 atm). 4.1.3 spends like a minute being freezed before its done loading the list. 4.1.4 appear to load the list much quicker, but as soon as the init it done it appears to just crash. Seems a bit like it occurs when auto seed kicks in.

It seems that the issue is contained in Windows 10 and the 64bit builds.
Can you guys try the 32bit version of qbittorrent to see if it works?

Due to the numerous instant reports I have deleted the 64bit version on FossHub and SourceForge.
(I kept the installer locally)

PS1:It works fine on my Windows 7 install.
PS2: I am too tired now (4:46 AM in my locale). I am going to sleep. I can't debug this atm.

32 bit version worked.
64 bit version didn't work, the 32 bit installer works just fine.

So either Qt is at fault (4.1.4 uses 5.11.2 while 4.1.3 uses 5.11.1) or openssl (4.1.4 uses 1.1.1 while 4.1.3 uses 1.1.0)
I'll probably have to provide test builds in the next days.

@Chocobo1 @glassez do you have Windows 10 machines? If yes, can you run the installer through WinDbg?
I managed to run it on a Win 10 machine.
It doesn't crash with a clean profile. It crashes as soon as you add a torrent and it tries to do network stuff. WinDbg showed a crash inside ssl functions. Do you confirm?
Here is the originally uploaded installer and gpg sig

@Lash78 see above.

I smell subtle incompatibility of openssl 1.1.1 with Qt. The 1.1.1 series is considered different that the 1.1.0 series AFAIK.

I cannot reproduce the crash, probably not helpful because I have a nearly clean profile (no previous torrent jobs).

I smell subtle incompatibility of openssl 1.1.1 with Qt.

Personally I think you should stick with 1.0.2 series as listed here: https://wiki.qt.io/Qt_5.11_Tools_and_Versions
Besides, I never found a way of building Qt with openssl 1.1 series without hitting compile errors.

@AssasinCross Python should be detected on 4.1.4 and 4.1.3 too

@Lash78 I actually forgot to put that one is from the original qBittorrent.
I'm guessing 4.1.3 didn't log the python not detected because it able to load it, while 4.1.4 unable to detect it at all

@sledgehammer999 commented on 2018. nov. 19. 03:47 CET:

It seems that the issue is contained in Windows 10 and the 64bit builds.

Can you guys try the 32bit version of qbittorrent to see if it works?

Due to the numerous instant reports I have deleted the 64bit version on FossHub and SourceForge.

A quick news item would have been nice to stop people from looking pointlessly for the new version.

Windows 10 Pro Build 1809 crashes on start, downgrade to 4.1.3 works again.

I think there has been enough messages on "me too, confirmed, crashes".
It's definitely crashing for many users on Windows 10 64-bit, and if there's nothing unique for your case it's probably better for both the developers and your hand muscles if you just click on the 👍 button instead.

Can you guys try the following test build? It runs without crashes on the Win 10 machine I tested.
Here is the installer and gpg sig.

Other info:
Build using openssl-1.0.2q. The openssl 1.1.0 series seem to crash too.

Can confirm that test build starts and can download on my machine, Windows 10 x64 1709, no crash.

This test build corrected the crash behavior I was seeing originally (Windows 10 x64).

Might want to have a machine running 10 for testing/development in future, most of us are running 10 now, is it openssl that's actually at fault or how Qbittorrent utilizes it?

The new installer is now published on the main site along with the 32bit one.
I am closing this now.
Thank you for giving your feedback.
I am locking it, to prevent further "me too" comments.
