Reasons:

  • one dependency for collections, io etc
  • more compact API

Size comparison :

Guava ~ 1.6 - 1.8 MB
vs
Commons Lang3 ~ 300 kB
Commons IO ~ 100kB
Commons Collections ~500kB

Skipping for now as too many methods are not available in Guava

Various String related utilities. Guava is quite minimal in that area compared to Commons Lang. Making the missing String utilities available in Mysema Commons would be one option.

Guava seems to have quite a generic way to do string manipulation: http://code.google.com/p/guava-libraries/wiki/StringsExplained
