I'm using quodlibet 3.7.1. on Debian Linux 9, and some other linux variants, since 2 years because i did not like bloated players or the others lack some specific feature.
I'm using different music players on different OS nearly exclusively with their file browser since i've got a huge music file collection. The files are sorted into folders (character stations) which resemble specific moods, or other criteia, and targeted at semiprofessional DJ usage. I'm used to quickly find a file for a specific mood, or mix some 2 or 3 stations. It's even possible to let it just play random from the mix, unattendet.
The files are organized in a flat hierarchy of 2 levels. In the top level root folder, are some 100 folders for different moods / character features. (not genres).
In each of these 'character stations', files are sorted after artist or creator, one subfolder for every artist.
What did you try to do?
I click-selected the top level music folder, to be able to select (mix) some of the subfolders next. I clicked a subfolder (character station) containing some 50 artist-folders. Now i tried to select all the artist folders with right-click "select all subfolders".
What did you expect to happen?
That there was such an action in the right click menu entry.
What did happen instead?
Well there wasn't :) and so i had to click-add every one of the 50 folders manually ...
I would like to have such a mix-folders feature because, depending on the mood of the dancing people, or otherwise just my mood, i'd like to mix a composition of different moods / styles / things.
Character-stations have average 50 - 150 artist folders within them.
I agree that my usage is far from 'widespread' but i think a 'comfortably mix different sources into one playlist' feature would be useful to other people too.
