Or substitute it with spaces before the output. Because it cannot be printed in non-unicode terminals.

We are not actually outputting this AFAICT. But maybe we should also convert it to a simple space before printing it?

It seems that \u00a0 is transliterated on Windows, into \xa0, at least on latin-1, which is correct.

Unfortunately I don't recall what the problems were with this. But I can replace it with a plain space before printing.
