@hadley some incentive to ensure pkgdown is updated as regularly as possible: For pkgdown actions workflows, it is specified in actions/setup-r-dependencies via extra-deps which means it can only be installed via install.packages, so no dev install possible. Attempting to do so leads to:

  x Cannot install packages:
  * pkgdown: Conflicts with r-lib/pkgdown
  * r-lib/pkgdown: Conflicts with pkgdown 

I was hoping that using dev version after #2006 was going to fix my problems, but have to wait for CRAN update - so thanks for acting so quickly here! Ping @maelle

@mpadge that problem is already solved with v2 of the GitHub actions scripts.
