README

Kicktoo is meant to automate the manual steps required to build any Portage based distro.

#################
# Install kicktoo
#################

1) Download an official Gentoo livedvd (though you may use other livecds):
   http://distfiles.gentoo.org/releases/
   i.e.
   http://distfiles.gentoo.org/releases/amd64/12.1/livedvd-x86-amd64-32ul-2012.1.iso

2) Boot the livedvd

3) Setup network connectivity

4) Download Kicktoo from github.com
   # git clone git://github.com/r1k0/kicktoo.git
   or
   # wget github.com/r1k0/kicktoo/archive/master.zip

#####################
# Use kicktoo locally
#####################

1) Read the profile of your choice and customize it with care
  # cd kicktoo
  # vim profiles/gentoo/gentoo.profile

2) Run Kicktoo

  # ./kicktoo -h
Usage:
    ./kicktoo [options]

Options:
-p, --profile <file> Run the profile
-u, --dump Dump config to stdout
-e, --export <file> Export set config for import
-i, --import <file> Import and run config from export
-c, --client <host> Act as a client and fetch profiles from a kicktood daemon
-r, --removeresume Clear any previously set resume points
    -n, --noautoresume Turn off autoresume
    -h, --help This
-v, --verbose Be verbose (show command output)
    -d, --debug Output debugging messages
    --nocolor No color
    --version Print version

Tip:
read profiles/config.txt for all profile features and options
  #
  # ./kicktoo --profile profiles/gentoo/gentoo.profile
OR
  # ./kicktoo --dump --profile profiles/gentoo/gentoo.profile
  # ./kicktoo --export /tmp/myconf --profile profiles/gentoo/gentoo.profile
  # ./kicktoo --import /tmp/myconf

3) Reboot

######################
# Use kicktoo remotely
######################

1) Run kicktood on the remote host serving remote profiles
  # cd kicktoo/daemon
  # vim kicktood.conf
  # emerge HTTP-Daemon
  # ./kicktood --conf kicktood.conf

2) Run kicktoo from the local host
  # cd kicktoo
  # ./kicktoo --client 192.168.1.69

3) Reboot

#################################
# Contribute your custom profiles
#################################

1) Customize your specific profile to do what you need
You might need to change code inside modules/, you should not.
Instead, use pre_ post_ functions (take example on other profiles) and rewrite if you need the relevant runsteps.

2) Send it back as a single profile file and I'll merge it in profiles/${distro}/contrib/.
Make sure kicktoo can always run the default profiles. Don't break what already works.
Something went wrong with that request. Please try again.
