Updated Categories on Existing Posts #18
It seems that making a change in the Categories under a feed's Settings only applies to future posts pulled from that feed; posts which have already been pulled in are not reflected in that change. Editing the older posts allows one to only add additional categories. Currently, the workaround is to Unsubscribe and Delete Existing Posts, then add the feed back in.
Right, this is expected behavior. A syndicated post's categories are determined at the time that the post is first imported, not adjusted dynamically later when the post is displayed, so if you later change the categories assigned to posts from a given feed, the change will apply only to newly-imported posts. It has no way of being applied retroactively to already-imported posts.
If you frequently need to go back and change the categories that already-syndicated posts are placed under, then you'd need an add-on that could automate the process of removing and then rewriting categories from existing posts for a given feed. That would be pretty far beyond the scope of what FWP does now, and I don't plan to include this feature in the core code, but if you need something like it going forward, feel free to get in touch with me about this as a customization.
