I left it to reboot and made a cup of tea, and when I got back I could connect to the network but there were no networks visible form the portal. Another reboot and it worked fine. Can we make it keep on scanning somehow? maybe that'd be rubbish....

This could be:
a. on start-up the scanning phase isn't finding any wifi networks
b. the wifi networks list is being wiped somehow

Needs more testing to see what the root cause is.
