$ bundle exec rake assets:precompile --trace

That will swallow errors unless the RAILS_GROUPS environment variable is set. Somewhere between the shell and the task, the --trace option is lost so that it isn't passed to Kernel.exec, making it difficult for people to debug issues with precompiling assets.

This is an issue again since the fix of @tenderlove was reverted

spastorino commented Aug 16, 2011

Even more, now is swallowed unless RAILS_GROUPS and RAILS_ENV are set

tenderlove commented Aug 16, 2011

Bro, why did we revert my change rather than fix the real issue?

spastorino commented Aug 17, 2011

For the record, we should go with a solution like the one @tenderlove provided but it's too late for 3.1

Looks like this was resolved in 3.1.1. Thanks all.
