Bring back ability to manually run commands with or without spring #269
It seems that you can no longer do
If this is the case, could I ask that you please bring these back.
In my experience Spring is not reliable enough to have no quick way of running commands without it. This probably has nothing to do with Spring and everything to do with the complexity of rails loading. In my use case if something unexpected happens my first action is to run without spring, just to rule out some problem with rails loading. I sometimes do this several times in a session, so unspringing is not practical
Also if you are going to make such a drastic change to the UI of spring perhaps you could consider a major version bump.
Finally IMO the binstub approach, should be considered an extra, that spring users can choose to take advantage of if they want to, not the ONLY way to work with spring
Apologies if it came across that way, I'm very attached to Spring and really appreciate the work you've done. So please forgive my lack of tact.
I'll explore this a little further, and see if I'm doing something dumb on my end, then I'll get back to you
OK, time for grovelling apology :)
Seems that something odd was going on with my setup. I think it might have had something to do with ~/.spring.rb not being picked up - and probably USER ERROR by not stopping spring server and then reloading.
Anyhow after alot of tinkering and reinstalling of different versions of spring its all working again. I'm so sorry I jumped the gun and wasted your time. I'll close this issue now.
ps congrats on becoming a core part of Rails.
