What are the contents of index.Rmd? Can you verify if the following sequence works?

author("new-deck", use_git = FALSE)
slidify("index.Rmd")
browseURL("index.html")

Hello:
i have made two checks:
1st The code you supplied works perfectly. Surprisingly the Rmd files look identical but the first does not work and the second works.
2nd The standard procedure works perfectly in my desktop computer but not in my laptop. ¿maybe some packages missing?.

here is my text of index.Rmd

title : Programming something
subtitle : Work for coursera submission
author : Pedro Díaz-Simal
job : Professor
framework : io2012 # {io2012, html5slides, shower, dzslides, ...}
highlighter : highlight.js # {highlight.js, prettify, highlight}
hitheme : tomorrow #
widgets : [] # {mathjax, quiz, bootstrap}
mode : selfcontained # {standalone, draft}

knit : slidify::knit2slides

Read-And-Delete

  1. Edit YAML front matter
  2. Write using R Markdown
  3. Use an empty line followed by three dashes to separate slides!

--- .class #id

I think the problem is for "author : Pedro Díaz-Simal", some character such as: á, é, í,ó,ú do not work in the YALM part (The first part where is the "tittle" to "mode").

I had similar problem. (I create a issue some months ago). Change Pedro Díaz-Simal to Pedro Diaz-Simal or Pedro Diaz Simal (I don't remember if "-" works in the YALM part).

I would suggest that you check what @arturochian recommends and let me know if that fixes the problem. @kohske fixed a lot of encoding related issues in slidify, and if it is indeed the problem with the YAML front matter, we can investigate that and figure out a fix.

@pdiazs, I had the same problem here, but it's worked for me saving the *.Rmd file with utf-8 encoding (in RStudio: File >> Save with Encoding >> utf-8) instead of ISO-8859-1 (System default).

Hi @dscorzoni The issue was solved some time ago. You can use slidify("index.Rmd",encoding="Windows-1252") or another encoding (I use Wnindows-1252 for latin character as á,é...).

I am experiencing the same issue. I have verified the encoding is utf-8; run Ramnath's test-deck and it fails with the error.

Error in if (body$content == "") { :
missing value where TRUE/FALSE needed

The first time, I made no alterations to the template created from the author() command.
The second time I added simple entries for the first 4 YAML statements. (they line up in RStudio
title : test
subtitle : match Ramnath
author : Barb
job : confused

Yeah, it is just sad that I have to waste time writing projects for coursera and have to hit my head against the walls because the software versions are not stable/tested

Anibanc81--if you click that link #407 above you can see the author had some regex issues that he fixed right up. Another awesome netizen.

Thanks @mdcscry, your update fixed my problem too. Much appreciated.
I agree with @bruceloco, about trying to do Coursera project and hitting loads of brick walls regarding to the software. I never got the publishing to rPubs to work. Currently in the Developing Data Products course I have written my shiny app but get dll file errors and other stuff when trying to deploy it to shinyapps.io.
This is wasting what limited time I have to do the assignments in the first place, creating additional difficulties/stress in my life when I should also be trying to relax in my free time, not consumer more than is necessary by Coursera.
