Some glyphs (e.g. braille symbol) are rendered with gaps in between

When looking at btop with rio, and when comparing the look to other terminals, the output looks different (less appealing).
See here an example:

rio (has big gaps at the top/bottom and smaller gaps on the left/right):

foot (no gaps):

ghostty (no gaps):

Here is my related rio-config:

The font on the other terminal is exactly the same.

By looking the images, looks Rio is using a different font than the others. Is the braile icons included in the CaskaydiaCove NF?

At least foot (not sure about ghostty), renders "box drawing" characters (including the braille codepoints) by itself, and is not using the font at all. This is very common, and many terminal emulators do this.

Ah yea it's something I am considering to do as well, ghostty does to some characters as far i know

Looks like some fonts (e.g. Noto Sans Symbols 2) are affected by this, but others (e.g. DejaVu Sans Mono) are not. Using DejaVu Sans Mono as an extra font worked well.

I gave it a try. First of all, having "CaskaydiaCove Nerd Font" with "DejaVu Sans Mono" as extra font doesn't work because apparently CaskaydiaCove provides the braille. When using "DejaVu Sans Mono" as main font, it looks better but there is still a gap. Compare this to the first screenshots I posted:
