FTP - sync produces "Move Rename failed: 553 Can't rename file." error

What is the problem you are having with rclone?

I get Move Rename failed: 553 Can't rename file. error while syncing on FTP remote. Files that are allready on the remote and that have changed produce the error.

What is your rclone version (output from rclone version)

• rclone delete, rclone deletefile and rclone purge commands do not produce the error (the file/directory are succesfully removed).
• rclone move command does not produce the error (the file/directory are succesfully moved).

I assumed rclone move renames files when source and destination remotes are the same. As I did not encounter the same issue I must be wrong, what is does rclone move do in this case?

This is due to a change in v1.63 which uploads files to ftp (local and smb also) as a temporary name then renames them afterwards. This is a safer way of doing the uploads in general, but it looks like your FTP server can't do renames.

Renames are part of the base FTP spec so all servers are expected to be able to rename.
