[4.1.0] Sharing a external usb hard drive on samba network

ninjaw edited this page Feb 27, 2018 · 1 revision

Purpose: Showing an additional hard drive (not used for roms, with the SHARE using for example the SD card) plugged in USB on recalbox, to the windows network (SAMBA) next to the \SHARE as would be doing a NAS

On Windows you can use the Putty console or WinSCP, far more useful, because it's a console/file manager/text editor, 3 functions required in this guide. This has been tested on 4.1, previous version could ask more work, like mounting the drive into FSTAB.

-Connect as usual to the recalbox url: recalbox login: root mdp: recalboxroot

-Launch in console mount -o remount,rw / to unlock system file protection (Final slash is important, it will be unlocked until reboot)

-Edit /etc/samba/smb.cfg and add to the end :

[usb]

comment = usb

path = /media/usb0

writeable = yes

guest ok = yes

create mask = 0644

directory mask = 0755

force user = root

Save and reboot, this will be overwritten on next update.
