Information:

In the first guide you learned how to use hi-res textures.

General:

For some games different hi-res textures were created. The problem is that the versions have usually all the same name. If you would like to have several versions, then follow this guide.

What we do:

For each version of the hi-res texture we edit the internal rom name.
When this is done we will edit the names of the hi-res textures.

What we need:

In this guide we work with N64 Rom Renamer by Einstein II. (google ist your friend) to edit the internal rom name.
You also need an Batch-Renamer (example on Windows is AntRenamer).
In this guide we work with Better Rename (MAC OSX).

Here we go:

Edit the internal rom name:

  • Open the N64 Rom Renamer with administrator rights (for me it doesn't work without).

  • Press F2 or go to Tools - Headereditor F2
  • Confirm the Attention

  • On the top left press the folder icon and select your rom (for example we use Mario Kart 64 in this guide)

  • Here you can edit the internal rom name
Attention

The name of rom can not be arbitrarily long.
As it seems, the complete length of the letters / spaces must be respected.
In this case the MARIOKART64 has nine spaces.

  • In this example, four spaces are removed and replaced by four letters (SNES)

  • Press Save changes and then Back

The internal rom name has been successfully changed.

Rename the file name of the rom to example Mario Kart 64 SNES Edition.ext The file name of the rom is not interesting for hi-res.

Edit the hi-res texture folder and files:

The (example) folder structure of the Hi-res textures folder looks like this:

The folder and file names MARIOKART64 are of course wrong after we have changing the internal rom name. Now we must correct that.

  • Open Better Rename

  • Category: Text

  • Action: Replace text

  • Replace: MARIOKART64

  • With: MARIOKART64SNES

After renaming, you should check whether the names match. If the folder name and file names have been changed, the Hi-Res textures folder can be copied.

For safety:

Old folder name: MARIOKART64
Old file names inside the folder: MARIOKART64#......

New folder name: MARIOKART64SNES
New file names inside the folder: MARIOKART64SNES#...

Done

Follow these steps for each hi-res texture version you want.
