rss feed does not work in linkedin #367

@pfeiffersz

LinkedIn RSS page says to reddit's RSS feed:

The URL you entered is not a valid RSS or Atom feed. Please check the URL and try again.

W3C feed validation service says it is valid, but there is a recommendation:

Missing atom:link with rel="self"

@andre-d

If W3 says the same URL is valid, I would file a bug report with linkedin.

@pfeiffersz

The case is not so simple, because W3C has a recommendation to the RSS and LinkedIn says:

"The RSS feed you've set up for a group or company page may have some errors that need to be corrected.
...

  • Even if your RSS is valid, try to correct any errors identified."

@merikari

Reporting the same problem. My personal feed has not been working since Sep 29. If I try to subscribe to the feed again, I can see new items in the feed preview, but they are not fetched in Google Reader.

Validator comments:
"This feed is valid, but interoperability with the widest range of feed readers could be improved by implementing the following recommendations.

line 1, column 25712: Missing atom:link with rel="self" [help]

... comments]"

@kalloc

I can't subscribe to RSS feed through Google Reader.
Can you help me?

@fdouchant

As merikari said: ATOM validator complains about the inexistency of the missing atom:link.

So Google Reader and probably other readers won't fetch new items... :-(

Any idea when this issue will be resolved ?

Thx

I pushed some changes on Friday intended to make RSS work better. Has this had any effect?

@kalloc

Hi, don't work for me.
But rss validator said that a rss is valid.
May be problem in Headers? Content-Type after HTTP Code?
I found temporary solve for my problem by easy php script (sorry for this word)

<?
header("Content-Type: text/xml; charset=UTF-8");
$url = "http://www.reddit.com/.rss?feed=HASH&user=LOGIN";
$rss = file_get_contents($url);
$rss = str_replace(str_replace("&", "&", $url), "http://example.com/reddit.php", $rss);
$etag = md5($rss);

$iftag = isset($_SERVER['HTTP_IF_NONE_MATCH']) ? $_SERVER['HTTP_IF_NONE_MATCH'] == $etag : null;.

if (($iftag) && (iftag !== false)) {.
    header('HTTP/1.0 304 Not Modified');.
} else {
    header("ETag: $etag");
    echo $rss;
}
?>

rss with this script displays correctly in google reader

@Ishitori

Any progress on that issue? I also want to use Google Reader to read reddit, but it just doesn't fetch new items at all. I can open rss link in browser manually, but Google Reader fails to find any updates with error

@deviantintegral

I'm unable to add a feed to Google Reader at all. Here's an error I currently get related to relative URLs:

http://validator.w3.org/appc/docs/warning/ContainsRelRef.html

description should not contain relative URL references: /u/Damasticator
