If you switch to https://www.reddit.com/ - it will still serve you links from the HTTP (non-SSL) version of reddit.com for comments.
The expected result when using HTTPS would be that all links would refer to the HTTPS version of the site.
HTTPs on reddit is not yet fully supported, this can be seen by the fact that the certificate is not valid when visiting https://reddit.com
As andre-d points out, we don't support full-site SSL just yet.
