I'm referencing this issue from the FAQ, so we can discuss architectural alternatives and track progress together with users.

This issue is actively being worked on in the branch jd_secondary_indexes (https://github.com/rethinkdb/rethinkdb/tree/jd_secondary_indexes)

Not making into 1.4, moving to 1.5.

Any idea when this is going to be finished. Really wanting to use rethink db for near realtime stats graphing but does not support seconday indexes

Owner

coffeemug commented Mar 4, 2013

Hi @wojons, we're shooting to release support for secondary indexes by end of march (1.5 release). We're about to release 1.4 in the next few days, once we do we'll set a more official release date for 1.5.

What's the status? Secondary indexes would make it much easier to include in my projects.

Owner

coffeemug commented Mar 19, 2013

Tentatively, April 15th is the current best guess for the ETA.

Cool, I'll keep checking.

This issue no longer has an internal purpose (it's far too broad), but I'm keeping it since there are some people watching it externally. We'll close it when the 1.5 release is done.

aemadrid commented Apr 3, 2013

Does it mean that you will have secondary indexes in 1.5? What are the other issues that I should follow then?

Owner

coffeemug commented Apr 3, 2013

@aemadrid -- yes, secondary indexes will be in 1.5. Check out https://github.com/rethinkdb/rethinkdb/issues?milestone=24&page=1&state=open for the list of open issues related to secondary indexes.

Given the date I'd say a March release is unlikely.

Most likely we'll get this out at the end of April.

karlgrz commented Apr 11, 2013

I am also highly interested in secondary indexes as well (it's the last feature we need to implement rethinkdb on a project I am working on in production).

Owner

mglukhovsky commented Apr 11, 2013

@karlgrz, they're still on track to be included in 1.5 by the end of the month. As @coffeemug said, you can track the open issues left before we can include secondary indexes (https://github.com/rethinkdb/rethinkdb/issues?milestone=24&page=1&state=open).

karlgrz commented Apr 11, 2013

Thank you for pointing that out. Sorry for overlooking that!

Owner

mglukhovsky commented Apr 11, 2013

No worries, we love the enthusiasm! Just want to make sure you're aware of the best place for news on secondary indexes.

jdoliner commented May 14, 2013

Alright, all of the sindex issues are closed with the exception of #728 which is only maybe sindex related and isn't going in to 1.5. Closing this.

This ships in 1.5. It's a container issue so there isn't really a single review for it.
